PRIVATE YACHT CHARTER IN PHI PHI ISLANDS
Sailing in Phi Phi Island
I've got mixed feelings about recommending Phi Phi. These islands are almost painfully beautiful – the kind of place that makes you question whether you've accidentally stepped into some CGI-enhanced movie set. But that's also the problem – ever since Leonardo DiCaprio's "The Beach" put it on the map, it's been fighting a battle against its own popularity.
When you approach by yacht, though, you'll experience a different Phi Phi than the day-trippers. You can time your visits to iconic spots like Maya Bay (yes, THAT beach) during early morning or late afternoon when the tour boats have departed. The twin bays of Ton Sai and Loh Dalum create one of the most dramatic landscapes in Thailand, connected by a narrow, walkable isthmus flanked by stunning beaches on both sides.
SAILING GUIDE PHI PHI ISLANDS
The perfect playground
The sailing conditions are generally forgiving, with protected waters and short distances between stunning anchorages. Come here between November and April for the calmest seas and clearest visibility underwater
Nature’s masterpiece (handle with care)
The underwater scene is equally impressive. Shark Point lives up to its name with regular blacktip reef shark sightings, and the vibrant coral gardens at spots like Koh Bida Nok offer some of Thailand's best snorkeling right off your boat.
Fair warning – the main village on Phi Phi Don can feel like a backpacker haven at night. But back at the boat , you can escape to quiet anchorages around the archipelago's lesser-visited corners. Just remember to bring out what you bring in – these fragile ecosystems have been under tremendous pressure from tourism.
QUICK GUIDE TO PHI PHI ISLANDS
Key Attractions
The real Phi Phi emerges after 4pm when the day-trippers depart. That's when Phi Phi Leh's Maya Bay transforms from selfie central to natural sanctuary. Better yet, charter north to Bamboo Island where ongoing marine conservation efforts have created thriving reef systems that few visitors experience.
Best Activities
Beyond standard snorkeling, Phi Phi offers free-diving courses with world record holders at Blue View Divers. Even beginners can learn to hold their breath for several minutes and experience marine life without bubbles or equipment – a meditative experience that sophisticated travelers increasingly seek.
Wellness
While not known for traditional spas, Phi Phi's wellness offerings have evolved. Arrange for a "Floating Yoga" session with Holiday Yoga – practiced on anchored paddleboards at sunrise in sheltered bays. The instability creates micro-adjustments that standard yoga lacks, while the setting beats any studio on earth.
Food & Drink
Morning charter to Koh Yao Noi's east coast for breakfast at Chaba Cafe, an architect-owned spot where Bangkok's creative class escapes to when they tire of Phi Phi's party scene. Their passionfruit pancakes and locally roasted coffee are worth altering your sailing itinerary.
Events & Celebrations
Time your visit for November's Loy Krathong, when the full moon transforms Tonsai Bay into a floating garden of candlelit offerings. What makes Phi Phi's celebration special is its intimacy – unlike commercial versions elsewhere, locals still dominate the ritual, and they're happy to share the experience.
